Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $5,000 to Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation for the Hospital’s Physical Therapy Department through a new initiative called the Wish List program. The Wish List was conceived as a way for the Auxiliary to assist the needs of patients and team members in a more personal way while supporting the exceptional quality of care at HRH.
The late Thurman Munger had identified one such need. Patients of the Physical Therapy Department would benefit from extra-wide, high-low treatment tables which would accommodate higher weight limits and allow therapist more space to actually help patients on the tables.
“Thurman had been having therapy at the Hannibal Regional Hospital Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine for the past two years and the staff became like family,” stated wife Judy Munger. “He saw that there was a need and asked if there was anything the Auxiliary could do to help. He was just thrilled that the treatment tables were coming because he knew they were needed.”
Mr. Munger passed away shortly before the new tables for the Physical Therapy Department arrived.
“We are so happy to have been able to help this department this year. The Auxiliary plans to make the
Wish List an annual gift to the Hospital’s Foundation in addition to the large pledges given each year,” said Carol Wilhoit, President of the HRH Auxiliary.
The Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary is more than 250 members strong and works to promote Hannibal Regional Hospital through increased community awareness, health-related education and fundraising initiatives. Auxiliary members are proud to continue the tradition of serving as ambassadors between the hospital and its communities. Volunteer opportunities include working in the Gift Shop, fresh flowers, Information Desk, Emergency Department, Greeters, puppet making, Hannibal Children's Center, James E. Cary Cancer Center, and various waiting rooms, among others. For more information or to become a member, call 573-248-5272.
