Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation News

A hospital is more than a place where people go to heal, it is a part of the community that fosters health and represents hope. From providing treatment and comfort, to welcoming new life into the world, Hannibal Regional Hospital is vital to a healthy and optimistic community centered around its people. That’s the message the hospital is promoting by recognizing National Hospital Week 2010.  The event is aimed at uniting Hannibal Regional Hospital and healthcare facilities across the country during the May 9–15 celebration.

"National Hospital Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of patients, donors, and our team of exceptional healthcare providers," stated John Grossmeier, President and CEO of Hannibal Regional Healthcare System. "We’re extremely proud to be able to continuously be a resource to the community and have a positive effect on people's lives.  Whether it's our patients, team members or donors, we recognize the important role those individuals play in making Hannibal Regional Hospital so important to the communities we serve."

The hospital showcased many of the new technologies and improvements made to the facility throughout the past year.  Hospital rooms were modernized, special bone and joint areas were created for orthopedic patients, patient monitoring system capabilities were enhanced and a state-of-the-art cardiac rehab and exercise facility was built.   Patient amenities for many of the remodeled rooms and improvements to the cardiac rehab facility were made possible by donor contributions to the Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation.

As a centerpiece to the week long event, Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation accepted a generous estate gift valued at over one million dollars from the William and Patsy Cary Trust on behalf of the hospital.

"Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation is thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Cary for providing this generous gift to the hospital," stated Wendy Harrington, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation.  "The Cary’s requested their gift be perpetuated in an endowment, allowing for the earnings to leave a legacy of expansion and growth of the Hannibal Regional Hospital's services and care for years to come."

Mr. and Mrs. Cary resided in the Palmyra area and owned a successful black angus cattle farm.  Mr. Cary was also a well known auctioneer.  The Cary’s received healthcare services at Hannibal Regional Hospital and generously named the hospital as one of four benefactors of their trust.

"Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation is very proud to accept this gift, as it serves as testament to the compassionate care that is offered daily by our hospital," stated Sarah Boleach, Director of Development, who offers leadership to the Planned Giving program at Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation.  "It is families such as the Cary's, with their generosity and belief in the future of healthcare, that leave a legacy and offer a strong foundation for the future growth and development of healthcare in northeast Missouri.  Their act of kindness and generosity will benefit our community for years to come."  For more information on Hannibal Regional Hospital, visit hrhonline.org.  For information on donor opportunities, please call the Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation at 573-629-3577 or visit hrhf.org.
